I taped up my arm to finish the shift before going to get it stitched up. On another occasion my arm was cut up on a piece of faulty window glass that shattered when I lifted it. The owner of the company would call out Center Managers and belittle them and curse at them in front of other managers from all over the country. We had our quarterly business meetings in Houston, with all the service center managers in a large conference room. Granted, I worked there more than 10 years ago, so much could have changed, but this job was miserable. Only good thing about it was the insurance prices. Maybe it would have been if they had a competent person with experience to oversee it and I didn’t have to do his job for him. Then they fired me due to having low production numbers. So I was always having to go help him figure something out and fix it. The shop “supervisor” (if you can call him that) has less than a year of machining experience. It started as a warehouse and they added machining a few years back but it’s still ran like a warehouse and not a machine shop so it doesn’t have the support system it needs. It’s hard to succeed when your set up to fail from the beginning. As a manager your job is to set your people up for success and give your them what they need to complete their job but they always did the exact opposite. Managers don’t really seem like they are there for their employees, only a pay check.
